Application

Voltage Surge Simulation

As per safety test requirements the insulation between accessible parts or parts connected to them and hazardous live parts shall be able to withstand surges due to transients, caused e.g. by lightning events and entering the apparatus through the antenna terminal. The voltage surge simulator VSS 500N10 generates high voltage transients as required by EN/IEC 60065 and UL 6500 standards for safety tests on audio, video and similar electronic apparatus.

Such test is also required by EN/IEC 60950-1 for safety testing of Information Technology equipment.

Benefits

VSS 500N10 - 10kV Voltage surge simulator for saftey testing

The VSS 500N10 is a surge voltage simulator specifically designed to meet the surge test requirements for safety tests on audio, video and similar apparatus. The standards specify the components for the pulse generation. A special switch is used in the VSS 500N10, designed to avoid any energy to dissipate in arcing or inadequate isulation.

Safety precautions are taken to assure safe operation at this high voltage level. The VSS 500N10 provides interlock and warning lamp control.

Application

Green Power testing - 1.2/50us Surge generator as per EN/IEC 61730

The surge generator type VSS 500N10.2 is specifically designed to generate high voltage transients as required by IEC 61730-2 for safety testing of photo voltaic panels. The specified waveshape of 1.2/50us must be generated and maintained as specified across a broad range of capacitance the PV's do represent and as such the generator needs to be based on different pulse shaping networks to cope with the variable capacitive load of the panels depending on their size and design

Such test is also required by EN/IEC 60950-1 for safety testing of Information Technology equipment.

Benefits

VSS 500N10.2 - Impulse voltage generator for photovoltaic panels

As per EN/IEC 61730-1/2 requirements for surge testing of photovoltaic panels these shall be wrapped with copper foil. This leads to comparatively high capacitance values of several tenth of nanofarad (typically values between approx. 10 and 180nF are seen). This capacitance is switched in parallel to the output of the generator. The required waveform of 1.2/50us needs to be maintained within the specified tolerance for the entire load range. To cope with these requirements a dedicated impulse voltage generator is required.

The EM TEST VSS 500N10.2 has been designed to cover the full range of capacitives load photovoltaic panels may represent offering 7 different load ranges. Each load range is based on a separate pulseforming network to comply with the tolerances given in the standard.

Same as all EM TEST equipment the VSS 500N10.2 offers manual operation as well as remote control operation via software. Pre-programmed test routines are offered for the 7 different load ranges as well as the Quick Start and the User Test routines for manual operation via front panel. USB and GPIB interfaces are implemented for software control.

VSS 500N12 Datasheet

Application

Voltage surge simulation

The voltage surge simulator VSS 500N12 generates high voltage transients as required by several IEC standards. The voltage surge pulses are used to test the isolation (voltage withstand) capability of components, sockets, connectors, cables and many other items.

Spark over detection and voltage/current measuring functions are included in the generator.

Benefits

VSS 500N12 - 12kV Voltage surge simulator

The VSS 500N12 is a surge voltage simulator specifically designed to test insulation material, components, sockets, connectors, cables and many more items to their voltage withstand capability. Testing the voltage withstand capability by means of a transient test pulse is the most common alternative to tests using a.c. or d.c. voltages.

By means of the built-in voltage and current monitors and the Spark Over Detection you are offered detailed test results to judge the quality of the DUT.

Safety precautions are taken to assure safe operation at this high voltage level. The VSS 500N12 provides interlock and warning lamp control. By means of an optional test box the operator can be further protected to avoid direct contact with high voltage and to avoid harm from exploding components or fragments of them when failing.

iec.control remote control and documentation software allows fully automated testing.

VSS 500N15.1 Datasheet

Application

Voltage surge simulation

The surge simulator type VSS 500N15.1 generates high voltage transients as required by IEC 60255-5 with a source impedance of 500ohm for transient overvoltage tests on "Protection Relays". The output voltage ranges up to 15kV, divided into two voltage ranges (up to 6.6kV and up to 15kV).

The no-load waveshape corresponds to IEC-61180-1. For this kind of testing the IEC 60255-5 standard requires a fixed energy of 0.5J at each test level.

Benefits

VSS 500N15.1 - Voltage surge generator with constant pulse energy

The VSS 500N15.1 Surge tester generates high voltage transients as per requirements of IEC 61180-1 (specification of the waveshape) IEC 60255-5 to specifically perform transient overvoltage tests on "Protection Relays". According to this standard the pulse energy is to be kept constantly at 0.5J at each test level hence a variety of pulseforming networks is implemented in order to obey this specification.

The output of the VSS 500N15.1 is devided into two ranges; the lower range covers the test up to 6.6kV while the higher range supports testing between 6kV and 15kV.

Dealing with considerable high voltage and energy safety features such as interlock and warning lamp control self-evidently considered.

Peak voltage measurement as well as the detection of spark-overs are implemented to accomplish the documentation of the performed tests.

Pre-programmed Standard Test routines allow highest user convenience. Still the VSS 500N6 offers the Quick Start test routine where parameters can be changed on-line during the test. Fail inputs are offered as standard for DUT monitoring purposes.

Application

Voltage surge simulation

The surge simulator type VSS 500N6 generates high voltage transients as required by IEC 60255-5 with a source impedance of 500ohm for transient overvoltage tests on "Protection Relays". The output voltage ranges up to 6.6kV, covering for tests levels 1 to 5.
